Willington Scholarship Foundation Dollars for Scholars Scholarship Awards Policy

1. The scholarship program for Willington Scholarship Foundation Dollars for Scholars will open on January 15th and close on March 15th. Students will complete the Student Profile in ChapterNet accessible via our web site willington.dollarsforscholars.org.

2. All award selections are anonymous and based on merit and/or financial need and/or compatibility with specific scholarship criteria.

3. The awards will be open to any Willington resident who is graduating senior in the current program year who is pursuing a two or four-year degree or certification from an accredited institution.

4. The Awards Selection Committee will score all applications as directed by the Awards Selection Committee chair. All awards will be determined on an anonymous and non-discriminatory basis.

5. Gifts to Willington Scholarship Foundation Dollars for Scholars may become a named scholarship as guided by the Willington Scholarship Foundation Dollars for Scholars Fund Policy. The award will carry the name of the donor or of the individual/organization     designated by the donor, unless the donor specifies it as an anonymous donation (i.e. the Jane Smith Scholarship, the Lions Club Scholarship, etc.). Gifts may result in annual or one-time awards as determined by a written agreement with the donor. Named scholarship sponsors

6. Sponsors of awards (named or otherwise) may not determine scholarship recipients, although they may be part of the Awards Committee.

7. Sponsors will have the opportunity to present their award if they so choose. Arrangements will be made by the Awards Selection Committee chair. If they choose not to present their award, sponsors will be notified of the name of their award recipient by letter.

8. Willington Scholarship Foundation Dollars for Scholars minimum and maximum award will be determined annually by the availability of funds and the composition of the pool of applicants. Scholarships provided by a specific donor or endowed fund will be guided by the written agreement in place between the donor and the Willington Scholarship Foundation Dollars for Scholars.

9. Awards will be presented to recipients at the Spring Awards Night program. Students will receive a check made to their institution of choice upon completion of the Scholarship Acknowledgement Form (SAF). The SAF must be completed via ChapterNet by June 15th of the current calendar year. A recipient award letter indicating whom to thank will be provided to each recipient with a reminder of the June 15th deadline.

10. Award deferral process: Any student postponing postsecondary attendance due to personal circumstances may have up to one year to use his or her award, if the student properly notifies Willington Scholarship Foundation Dollars for Scholars by August 15th of the current year. If funds are not used within one year, they will be placed back in the scholarship rotation and made available to another student.

11. This Scholarship Awards Policy will be reviewed annually by the Awards Selection Committee prior to the start of Willington Scholarship Foundation Dollars for Scholars scholarship cycle. The committee chair shall submit any changes/updates to the Willington Scholarship Foundation Dollars for Scholars Board of Directors for approval and shall notify Scholarship America within ten (10) days of any approved changes. All changes/updates to the document, along with the vote of the Board of Directors, will be documented in the Willington Scholarship Foundation Dollars for Scholars meeting minutes.
